Reduce Stress

Controlling stress enables us to reduce the amount of stress that we face on a daily basis. It reduces the burden we have to carry, leaving us better able to cope and live a stress free daily life. However we cannot avoid every stressful situation and therefore we need to be able to deal with the stressor in order to be able to reset the clock.

The following exercise is very useful when you are experiencing high levels of stress or if you are experiencing unpleasant panic attacks.

We have an easy to remember acronym W.A.S.P. Imagine that your stress is like as wasp sting! Follow these easy to remember steps and try and regain control of the situation, remember this is a stressor and if not controlled may have a destructive cumulative effect. W.A.S.P is an essential part of stress management.

W - Wait
Say "No" to yourself, stop what you are doing

A - Absorb
Take a deep slow breath, breathe out slowly and pull your shoulders down, absorb the situation. Tell yourself to relax, try and remove yourself from the situation you are in.

S - Slowly
When you are feeling calmer slowly.............

P - Proceed
Carry on with what you were doing but with a much more relaxed frame of mind.
